Job Specification

The Strategy and Policy Business Unit is responsible for the Ministry's advice on the health and disability system.

This is not your typical 1-1 support role. It will be your ability to focus, understand priorities and pre-empt next steps that will see you succeed in this role. Your inherent resilience and ability to adapt to changing priorities will be valued more than your technical experience in a PA or EA role.  This might be your second or third role in the workforce but you'll be hungry to succeed on a personal level and have a real desire to work towards becoming an integral part of the ongoing success of your manager.

If you are looking for that next great thing in your career journey, want to form a real partnership with the Tier 3 manager that this role supports and are someone who genuinely enjoys supporting a wider team to achieve great results then we should meet.

What you need to bring to the role:

  • strong focus and the ability to prioritise - there is a very busy manager that needs to trust that if it's in your hands they don't need to worry about it
  • smarts and a willingness to learn
  • people and customer focused
  • positive enthusiastic attitude and high performance
  • natural curiosity - you actively seek solutions when you don't know the answer
  • comfort working with digital support solutions as well as paper
  • excellent organisational skills of self and of others
  • a team player with excellent relationship skills
  • an interest in business improvement and operational excellence
  • willingness to really think and go the extra mile and an openness to continuous improvement.

We have a strong focus on professional and personal development and opportunities to develop your capability through coaching and mentoring will be provided. We value diversity and offer flexible working opportunities where possible.

For the right candidate, we can be flexible with start date (either pre- or post-Christmas).  It's really important that we get the right fit for this role.
