Senior Investigator, Medsafe – Permanent


Medsafe seeks a Senior Investigator to join the Auckland-based Investigation and Enforcement Team (IET). The IET takes actions to ensure compliance of therapeutic products under the Medicines Act 1981 and the Medicines Regulations 1984.  While these actions include prosecution, the IET takes an ‘educate, encourage and enforce' approach.


Medsafe is the New Zealand Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Authority.  It is a business unit of the Ministry of Health and is the authority responsible for the regulation of therapeutic products in New Zealand.


The Senior Investigators are responsible for:

  • Investigating suspected breaches of legislation

  • Obtaining compliance with legislation by means other than prosecution

  • Intelligence Analysis

  • Preparing criminal prosecutions

  • Providing advice on therapeutic products law

  • Providing advice in relation to investigation and enforcement activities

  • Supporting our border control staff as required


The role offers challenging opportunities for people with extensive experience in criminal / regulatory investigations, intelligence and prosecutions and who ideally have worked in multidisciplinary teams.


Due to the national responsibility of the Team, the successful candidate must be willing, on occasion, to travel outside the Auckland region.  A full current New Zealand drivers licence is essential.
