The Ministry of Health is the Government's principal advisor on health and disability policy.  Our job is to protect the health of New Zealanders and, through leadership of the health and disability system, we help New Zealanders to live well, stay well and get well.  We work with the health and disability sector to manage a programme of work that supports the Government's priorities.


The Technology and Digital Services (T&DS) business unit is responsible for delivery of technology and digital services to the Ministry of Health and the health and disability sector. T&DS works closely with the sector to develop its technology and digital services, strategies and initiatives. It regularly engages with DHBs, PHOs, NGOs, clinicians, industry partners, colleges, consumers, the Treasury and other government agencies, to name a few.

This is an exciting time to join T&DS as we embark on a new way of working to deliver high quality services that ultimately impact on our ability as an organisation to deliver on the New Zealand Health Strategy. 

We're on the hunt for a Principal Architect to join our team!

As Principal Architect you'll be responsible for providing leadership and strategic advice to the sector to ensure optimal design and integration of systems across the whole health sector. You will lead the development of architectures, that support the NZ health sector deliver the objectives of the digital health strategy.  Your architecture leadership and guidance will enable sector architects to design systems that align to the standards, improve interoperability, maximise re-use of components and increase the value of technology investment.  The position relies on building strong relationships with external parties and fostering collaboration among NZ health sector participants.


To thrive in this challenging and exciting role you will need to employ your well-developed interpersonal skills to grow relationships with many stakeholders across the health sector. You will need to work to stay current with trends in the NZ and international health sectors as well as being able to apply learnings from other sectors that would benefit the NZ health sector. You will impress with your ability to articulate and tailor complex themes to a range of audiences including clinical, government, senior management and the public. In addition, you will have an understanding of the machinery of government and health system operations.
