Ministry of Health is going through some exciting change in the data and analytical space at the moment. A new BI and Data Warehouse Strategy has been developed by the team and a project to improve the BI and Analytical environment has just kicked off – Upgrading our SAS environment, introducing Qlik Sense as our new BI tool, and Designing a data platform for the future.
We are now looking for our next star – an enthusiastic & creative Senior Programmer Analyst to support Ministry of Health in producing high quality data extracts and provision of information and analysis – to help us bring data to life to change lives.
The Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse team (BIDW team) sits in the National Collections and reporting group within Technology and Digital Services (T&DS) based in Wellington.
The Senior Analyst Programmer is responsible for providing data and information in a format that meet or exceeds the requirements of our stakeholders.
In this role you will use a variety of programming tools, with the main tool being SAS, and specialist database knowledge and skills to effectively extract, analyse and transform information held in the national health collections to meet the client needs.
This role will have a focus on supporting the Analytical Community at Ministry of Health. The Senior Analyst Programmer will produce tables, datasets, cohorts and linked extracts from various National Collections that meet analyst and client specifications.
You will also take an active role in the SAS Upgrade and modernisation project and help identify improvements along the way. You are expected to have a positive outlook and excellent skills in collaborating within the team, across the Ministry and the wider health sector.

Demonstrable relationship management skills with the ability to foster good stakeholder relationships through consultation and partnership.
Demonstrable experience at building constructive and effective relationships.
Demonstrable experience in Advanced SAS programming; Base SAS, SAS Macro, SAS Connect and SQL, ODS, table joining, datastep manipulations and transformations
Good understanding of database / data warehouse design and data extract concepts
Sound knowledge of statistical and data modelling techniques
Ability to develop and champion quality assurance and quality improvement practices
Experience in providing guidance and training to less experienced colleagues
Strong written and oral communication skills
