This is an exciting time to join the Ministry of Health. The new Government has a clear focus on building a strong public health care system and achieving equitable health outcomes for New Zealanders.
We are looking for an exceptional leader to work with us as the Director, Office of the Director-General. This role is part of a new Executive Leadership structure that has been established to deliver on the Government's priorities and the Ministry's leadership and stewardship functions.
The Director, Office of the Director-General (ODG) is responsible for providing high quality advice and support to the Director-General. This role leads the Ministry's interactions with Ministers' offices, provides support to ensure the effective functioning of the ELT and promotes and supports the Director-General's strategic direction and priorities. The Director, ODG, will hold accountability for the management of Government Services, Communications and Global Health functions.
We are seeking a person with the ability to lead the provision of sound advice and assistance to support the Director-General to maintain and enhance strategic relationships with Ministers and direct reports. You will have experience in being a trusted advisor at Chief Executive level as well as the ability to lead special projects and deliver results. Exceptional skills in issues resolution and the ability to build excellent relationships across the Ministry and with the Ministers' offices are key success criteria for this role.
You will be a highly motivated, self-directed person with a strong work ethic, discretion, and with excellent organisational and time management skills. Strategic planning and critical thinking as well as experience in successfully working with in the public sector and a high degree of political awareness are essential.
