There are four HDECs, based in Auckland (Northern A HDEC), Auckland (Northern B HDEC), Wellington (Central HDEC) and Christchurch (Southern A HDEC). The HDECs review health and disability research applications to ensure that they meet or exceed established ethical standards.
On behalf of the Minister of Health, Hon Dr David Clark, we are currently seeking applications/nominations for the following roles on Northern B HDEC:
two members with expertise in intervention or observational studies
a lay member to represent the consumer perspective

a lay member with expertise in ethical and moral reasoning.
Please note that applicants for lay member positions:
must not have been registered as a health practitioner in the last five years
must not be involved, or employed by an organisation which is primarily involved in health and disability research.
This committee meets monthly. Members are sent agenda papers at least one week in advance of the meeting. Members may be asked to do additional work between meetings reviewing expedited review applications and amendments within set timeframes. You will need to have a computer and internet access as applications are lodged, assigned and viewed online.
Members may be paid up to a maximum of four days per month (up to two days for the meeting/meeting preparation, and up to one two additional days per month for allocated expedited review work). The daily rate is $250 per day.
HDECs are operational decision-making committees and meetings are open to the public. Interested applicants are welcome to attend a scheduled meeting to observe the process.
