The Ministry of Health leads the health sectors response to emergencies and crises and, provides leadership across government for human health emergencies. This is a critical role in ensuring the Ministry can respond effectively to a wide range of hazards and threats across the National Security System, ensuring that there is appropriate capacity and capability to respond in an emergency that has health implications at any given moment.
The Director will be expected to lead the emergency management team which is responsible for providing leadership and coordination for the health sector in planning and preparing for, and responding to, a health emergency. You would also lead the all-of-government response to a national health emergency, such as a pandemic.
The role will be based in Wellington but the successful candidate will be required to travel regularly.
The Director will be expected to participate within a duty system and will also fulfil functional and leadership roles within the Ministry Coordinated Incident Management System teams during responses. You will be required to assess potential and actual health emergencies, as well as, represent the Ministry at key meetings to determine the appropriate Government response to suspected or actual threats to health involving natural disasters, chemical, biological or radiological agents, bioterrorism or terrorism.
You will ideally have tertiary or professional accreditation in emergency management or public health intelligence as well as experience gained working in New Zealand, Australia, UK, USA or Canada, with the ability to gain and maintain a National Security clearance.
