On behalf of Hon Dr David Clark, Minister of Health, we are currently seeking applications/nominations for one health practitioner member position on the Midwifery Council.
The Midwifery Council is an independent statutory body established under section 114 (3) of the Act. As an independent statutory body, the Midwifery Council has an obligation to conduct its activities in an open and ethical manner. In addition, the Council has a duty to operate effectively in a manner consistent with its functions as set out in section 118 of the Act.
Council members attend meetings and undertake Council activities as independent people responsible to the Council as a whole and do not act in the Council as representatives of professional organisations or interest groups.
The Council's functions are to:
- prescribing the qualifications required for scopes of practice within the profession, and for that purpose, to accredit and monitor educational institutions and degrees, courses of studies and programmes
recognise, accredit and set programmes to ensure the ongoing competence of midwives
receive and act on information from midwives, employers and the Health and Disability Commissioner about the competence of midwives
consider the cases of midwives who may be unable to perform the functions required for the practice of midwifery.
Applicants from across New Zealand are welcome.
To nominate someone, or apply yourself, the following are required:
- a covering letter, detailing your/the nominee's experience that is relevant to the Midwifery Council and why the position is of interest to you/them
a current CV
a declaration form completed by the candidate for the relevant position (attached at the top of the advert).
Please note that any applicants for a health practitioner member position must be registered in New Zealand.
Nominations/applications must include all of the above documentation and be made before the closing date 5 September 2019.
