The Office of the Director-General (ODG) within the Ministry of Health is responsible for leading, enabling and supporting public service excellence by providing timely, high-quality advice, communications and service to Ministers, ELT and the wider Ministry; and by providing organisational leadership and governance support.
The role of Chief Advisor within ODG is a pivotal role for the organisation and is responsible for providing strategic guidance and advice to the Director-General, the Deputy Director-General ODG, and to the Executive Leadership Team at a senior level.
In this key senior leadership role you will:
- Provide strategic and technical advice to the Director-General of Health (and the Executive Leadership Team) in relation to key priorities, risks, issues, communication and relationships, and to support the executive leadership of the organisation
- Provide advice, guidance and support for the DDG Office of the Director-General and act as a key member of the ODG SLT
- Manage key relationships at a senior level
This influential role is designed to support the Chief Executive as steward of the health system. The position does not have any direct reports. It is part of a small senior, self-managing team.
To be successful in this role you'll be able to tell us about how you've built your career by: leading work or issues at the political interface; understanding stakeholders; exercising communication skills (including understanding and awareness of media); and a building a track record of getting things done.
You will bring proven ability in initiating, developing and maintaining effective strategic partnerships with thought leaders and key influencers. You encourage and seek out engagement and are as comfortable working across the sector as you are working with professionals to advise Ministers. You willingly share your knowledge to enable others to be successful.
