We are looking for an experienced Senior Solicitor to join our Health Legal team to provide legal advice across the Ministry. As a Senior Solicitor, you will demonstrate leadership, share your knowledge and mentor/coach junior members of the team to build capability.

The Health Legal team works at the cutting edge of public, commercial and medical law issues. The work involves significant matters of relevance to both the health sector and New Zealanders at large.
Te whainga poto o tēnei tūranga – What is the purpose of this position?
As a Senior Solicitor within Health Legal you will be involved in the policy process (including legislative development), legislative compliance and statutory interpretation. You will undertake a broad range of corporate and commercial work including drafting and advising on contracts (including IT arrangements) and tender documents, and advise on governance and corporate compliance issues. You will have the opportunity to advise on complex and interesting health and public sector issues, including medico-legal and health sector regulation. The salary range for this position is $86,197 - $114,929 and will be offered to align with skills and experience.

The qualifications and experience needed are:
- Admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand
- Holds, or is eligible to hold, a practising certificate
- Ideally 4+ years practical experience working in a legal position
- Familiarity with government processes, machinery of government and working with legislation
- Experience in commercial and contract law in a public sector environment
- Strong background in public law, policy making and legislative development
