This is an exciting opportunity to provide insights and add value within an organisation making a significant contribution to the health of New Zealanders.
We are seeking a Principal Adviser to join the Ministry's Financial Strategy and Budget team to provide high level strategic financial advice, technical expertise and oversight to ensure the Ministry's and Minister of Health's external Budget and appropriation management responsibilities are met.
Te whainga poto o tēnei tūranga – What is the purpose of this position?
In this Principal Advisor position you will work closely with senior management, the strategic policy function and business teams in the wider Ministry along with officials from the Treasury and Minister of Health's Office in coordinating and supporting the development of the government's annual Budget package for Vote Health. The role also provides strategic financial advice to senior management to support evidence-based financial decisions and understand medium, and long term, opportunities and risks, and risk mitigation strategies.
You will also be responsible for overseeing the delivery of Vote Health related deliverables, including Estimates production, baseline updates, five-year forecasts and specific fiscal risk reporting to ensure they are delivered on time and to the appropriate standard.

An ability to produce high quality written advice is required. We are looking for someone who is results driven, highly focused and self-directed along with demonstrating the proven ability to work under pressure and with little supervision to meet deadlines, set and manage competing priorities.

The Financial Strategy and Budget team is part of the Finance business unit which has primary responsibility for supporting the Ministry's strategy by enabling effective resource allocation and prioritisation.
You will be a qualified Chartered Accountant or hold a tertiary qualification in finance, economics or other quantitative discipline.
