Ko wai mātou - About us
At Manatū Hauora – Ministry of Health we are the kaitiaki of the health system, providing leadership and driving strategy and performance. We regulate the health sector and are the primary source of advice on health matters.
The Monitoring and Assurance team is responsible for Crown entity and system monitoring and supporting the stewardship role of the Public Health Agency (PHA). The Monitoring and Assurance team works across the PHA and the wider health system to monitor, support and improve performance in public health.
As the Principal Advisor, you will provide leadership, data and performance analysis, and high-level strategic advice to support the PHA's critical monitoring and assurance function, which includes building and maintaining effective relationships across public health functions within health entities, as guided by the Public Health Monitoring and Assurance Framework. You will support Crown entities, the PHA and the Minister to hold a shared understanding of Crown entity performance and assure that public health objectives are trending in the right direction.

- Build and nurture relationships with Crown entities, creating a two-way dialogue on performance improvement
- Support, at a senior level, the development, planning and implementation of system monitoring and assurance across strategic and emerging public health priorities, aligned to the Ministry's system performance and Crown entity monitoring frameworks.
- Provide analysis of Crown entity and wider system performance, providing advice on the various impacts of qualitative and quantitative performance outcomes and using data and evidence-led approaches to evaluate performance
- Play a critical role in developing and maintaining the Ministry's monitoring and assurance capability by mentoring and supervising less experienced staff through the monitoring framework, ensuring we build the necessary ‘mindsets' to deliver on the PHA's monitoring and assurance stewardship role.

- Proven thought leadership and senior performance and monitoring/evaluation/audit expertise
