Ko tōu ake mahi - What you'll do
We're looking for 2 passionate Senior Analysts to oversee and direct key pieces of analysis and research, shape analytical practices, and deliver high-quality advice, reports and briefings summarising the findings from analysis. These are on-site positions
In this role, you'll turn complex health data into actionable insights that inform key decisions across the health system.
- Use statistical models, data science methods, and business intelligence tools to analyse large health datasets and extract meaningful insights.
- Review existing processes, recommend enhancements, and implement best practices to ensure high-quality and reliable data across the health system.
- Synthesize complex data from a range of sources (including the Integrated Data Infrastructure, administrative data, and health surveys) into actionable insights and communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring the information is accessible and tailored to different audiences.
- Create compelling visualizations, dashboards, and reports to illustrate trends, impacts, and key insights, helping inform policy decisions and strategic planning.
- Build strong relationships across the Ministry, health sector, government, and external stakeholders – Collaborate with policymakers, data teams, and healthcare providers to ensure alignment in analytical approaches and data-driven decision-making.
- Drive continuous improvement of analytical processes, tools, and frameworks – Identify and implement new methodologies, tools, and automation solutions to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and impact in workforce analytics and health data reporting.
Ko ngā pūkenga ōu - What you'll bring
- Significant experience in an Analyst position, extracting and analysing data and information in R and SQL coding, and visualising information in different formats
- Interpretation of complex issues and information, and present findings clearly and concisely to a range of audiences (technical and non-technical)
- Critical thinking and sound judgement, develop options and think strategically
- A commitment to growing cultural capability (such as te reo, tikanga, matauranga Māori) and understanding its importance in our work context.
- Collaborative nature working closely with others in a team environment, paired with strong communication skills
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills, and experience in data visualisation, including the ability to communicate clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles.

Our work includes both ad hoc data analytics and regular reporting, utilising a wide range of datasets, including health administrative data, health surveys, and drawing on the Stats NZ's Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI). We are part of a wider Group that leads data analytics at the Ministry.
