Are you passionate about public health and digital innovation? Do you have experience leading large digital and data programmes of work? We're seeking an experienced Chief Advisor to provide senior strategic leadership across data and digital systems in New Zealand's public health sector.
Ko ake mahi - What you'll do
The Chief Advisor Public Health Information Systems will provide senior strategic and technical leadership across data and digital system to improve disease surveillance and pandemic preparedness work programmes. This role will also support a broader programme of work aligning and improving data and digital services across the Ministry of Health and Health NZ.
In this key role, you will:
- Lead the Notifiable Disease Information Ecosystem (NDIE) Programme, coordinating efforts across the Public Health Agency (PHA), National Public Health Service (NPHS), and the Institute for Environmental Science and Research (ESR).
- Oversee programme management, data integration, surveillance tools, and analytics to ensure alignment with Ministry of Health and Health NZ priorities.
- Act as the primary liaison between the Public Health Agency and the Ministry's broader Data and Digital services programme.
- Manage programme dependencies, risks, and governance arrangements, ensuring successful project outcomes.
- Provide strategic leadership to implement future-focused solutions that improve national disease surveillance and pandemic preparedness.
- Build collaborative relationships across the health sector, government agencies, and external stakeholders.
- Lead the development of data services that reflect equity priorities and Treaty of Waitangi obligations.
Ko pūkenga - What you'll bring
- Tertiary qualification in a health or relevant field and/or equivalent experience
- Experience managing data and digital programmes of work
- Data governance, technical advisory, platform, tool development
- Experience designing work programmes and project planning to ensure delivery of work on time, and within budget
- Advanced knowledge of programme and management methods including techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling programmes
- Ability to work in complex environments and with a wide range of diverse stakeholders that are internal and external to the Ministry.

- Significant experience in strategic communications and engagement planning to ensure delivery of work on time, and within budget
