Ko ake mahi - What you'll do
The Mental Health, Addiction and Suicide Prevention Group supports the Ministry's role as chief advisor to the Minister for Mental Health, providing leadership both across the health sector and government on mental health, addiction, and suicide prevention matters.
The Programme Director, Suicide Prevention plays a pivotal role in shaping and enhancing the Ministry's approach to reducing suicide rates and supporting individuals, whānau, and communities affected by suicide. Our current priority is providing leadership and oversight of the Government's new Suicide Prevention Action Plan 2025-2029, which will be finalised shortly.
In this role, you will:
- Provide leadership on suicide prevention, including overseeing and driving the delivery of the Suicide Prevention Action Plan 2025–2029
- Build and maintain constructive relationships across health organisations, key stakeholders including our Minister and suicide prevention networks with a strong engagement focus
- Drive a collaborative cross-Ministry and cross-government focus on suicide prevention, embedding its importance across the broader work programme.
Ko pūkenga - What you'll bring
- Experience in programme management and leadership, preferably in the Health Sector, to include the development, planning, and implementation of strategies and action plans
- Knowledge of suicide prevention and the suicide prevention sector in Aotearoa, with previous sector experience an advantage
- Significant experience in strategic communications, engagement and relationship management, with strong sector networks, working closely with others to achieve government outcomes
- Political acumen and an understanding of the machinery of government, with previous central government and cross-agency working experience an advantage.
