Ko tōu ake mahi - What you'll do

The Mental Health, Addiction and Suicide Prevention Group supports the Ministry's role as chief advisor to the Minister for Mental Health, providing leadership both across the health sector and government on mental health, addiction, and suicide prevention matters.

This position is leading technically stimulating and personally rewarding work, focussed on primarily on responses to the Minister on a range of interesting topics including forensic mental health, drug use, and suicide prevention. Not a position for the faint of heart!

This is an opportunity to sink your teeth into some “crunchy” technical work that will influence the health and economic impacts of mental health and addiction related issues for years to come.

In this role you will:

• Lead work related to the government's mental health and addiction work programme, including using your technical policy analysis skillset to develop advice,
• Support implementation of the strategies, including establishing Ministry related monitoring functions,
• Lead a range of core policy work such as preparing briefings for Ministers and Cabinet papers, project management, engaging with key stakeholders, and preparing for announcements,
• Be part of a collaborative team, working with colleagues across the Ministry and other agencies.

This is an opportunity to support the work of the broader mental health, addiction and suicide prevention team, where we will match people's strengths and interests to focus on different components of our work programme.
